The New Roxy celebrates St. Paddy’s day this Friday, March 17th
Doors 7pm, music 7:30pm-1am
This is a party to behold, and you’re all invited! Music, cold beer and barrels of laughs are all lined up. Local bluesman Lucious Spiller kicks off the evening at 7:30pm, followed by hill country blues legend, Kenny Brown at 10pm. Cover at the door is $10.
That takes care of the music portion of the evening, but what’s the rest of the celebration you ask? Well, it’s St. Patrick’s Day for starters, but more importantly it’s the 60th birthday of a good Irish boy from New Jersey. Drew Magnusson is one of 6 brothers, the youngest of whom moved to Clarksdale some years ago. As big Irish families tend to be, they are a tight-knit bunch and love to visit Clarksdale to spend time together and revel in the music and culture. And as each of them turns 60? We all benefit with a big ol’ shamrock shakedown of a party! Seek him out and wish him a happy 60th birthday – he’s the one with the impressive moustache. Drew Magnusson, Kenny Brown, and the ghost of our dearly departed mascot, Moustache Kitty. See the theme? All the moustaches!!!
Come on down to the New Roxy this Friday and help us kick off the spring season. Mag Fest III is one fine party that you don’t want to miss! Give a good Clarksdale welcome to the NJ crew and listen to fantastic music by Kenny Brown and Lucious Spiller. Rain or shine, all are welcome.
Upcoming events at the New Roxy: Juke Joint festival 2017 is fast approaching! The New Roxy will have music in the week leading up to the big day, kicking off with Smokestack Relics from Colorado. This will be their first time playing in Clarksdale, and they’ll have traveled a long way to play for us, so be sure to mark your calendars for their Tuesday, April 19th show.
Thacker Mountain Radio hour returns to the New Roxy during Juke Joint Festival! Friday, April 21st at 6pm, the Thacker Mountain band, The Yalobushwackers, will play on the main stage and the hour will be taped for broadcast sometime in May 2017. Bring your best hoots n hollers and be part of the live audience. It is a truly spectacular event, and we are thrilled to play host to Thacker Mountain once again. Special guest to be announced – stay tuned!
The New Roxy Fundraiser Lounge will be the happening place to be on Friday night for the radio taping and into the evening, and also for the big night, Saturday April 22nd. It can get packed in the main stage area on Saturday night at the New Roxy, so why not give yourself ample leg room in our comfortable lounge? $30 for Friday night, and $75 for Saturday, April 22nd. This gives you access to the two lounge areas and the balconies overlooking the inside stage and the main stage. Complimentary light snacks and limited libations will be offered. The Fundraiser Lounge helps fund the New Roxy’s ongoing renovations – but don’t worry, we won’t cover up the main room and it’s beautiful view of the night sky!
That’s all for now, folks, and we look forward to seeing y’all this Friday at MAG FEST III: The O’Magnussons’ St. Paddy’s Day Party!
